With our mining operations expanding throughout the world, Newport Mining Limited plays an increasingly vital role on the global stage. The company is actively involved with a broad range of industry organisations, non-governmental organisation (NGO) partners and issue-based coalitions. Through leadership, participation and financial support, Newport Mining Limited is living its values within the international community.

• Newport Mining Limited is a partner in the Global Gas Flaring Reduction Partnership, which includes a standard to eliminate venting and reduce flaring of associated gas.
• The Company promotes the goals and principles of the United Nations (U.N.) Declaration of Human Rights through participation in the Voluntary Principles on Security and Human Rights. This international initiative guides extractive and energy companies in maintaining the safety and security of their operations globally within an operating framework that ensures respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms.
• Newport Mining Limited supports the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI), which encourages governments, extractive companies, international organisations, non-governmental organisations and others to work together to develop a framework to promote transparency of payments and revenues via aggregated reporting.

Newport Mining Limited recognises that the ability to do business in any community is a privilege. High standards of health, environmental, safety (HES) and security performance underpin a culture of continual improvement that includes:

• A comprehensive HES policy and associated performance principles, overseen by the Corporate Governance and Nominating Committee of Newport Mining Limited’s Board of Directors.
• A broad Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) policy that affirms a continuing commitment to our core values and which promotes sustainable social, environmental and economic benefits wherever Newport Mining Limited operates.
• Overall guidance is provided by a Corporate Responsibility (HES) Management Committee. This is a senior level committee comprised of Newport Mining Limited officers, who are responsible for reviewing the overall performance of various environmental compliance programs and other HES- and CSR-related initiatives, as well as establishing annual goals and direction.
• Use of integrated HES Management Systems: the Global Performance System for Upstream operations and the Responsible Care Management System for Downstream operations. This management system framework drives continual HES improvement throughout the Company.
• Metrics integral to our corporate and operational safety and environmental performance commitments.

The Newport Mining Foundation grants are awarded to non-profit organisations whose programs operate within health and human services, civic and community, environmental and social needs, primarily in the major employing locations of Newport Mining Limited.

Newport Mining Limited provides a number of direct capital and operating grants to the United Way and other health and human service organizations.

Our educational grants focus on higher education through direct grants to colleges and universities for operating, project, capital and scholarship needs. Preference is given to institutions that have strong programs in engineering, geology, science and business. Educational programs also include scholarships for sons and daughters of Newport Mining Limited and its affiliates' employees and a matching gift program for colleges and universities.

These grants support environmental, public policy, business and community organisations which focus on preserving the environment, promoting the betterment of the diverse communities where we operate and supporting issues that relate to the interests of the Company.
