Corporate Responsibility Policy

Our commitment to sustainable mining, environmental stewardship, and community development

Message from the Managing Director & Founder

David R. Murray

Managing Director | Chairman & Founder, Newport Mining

At Newport Mining, we believe that every ounce of value we extract from the earth must be matched by the value we return to it. Our business is built on the simple truth that sustainable success demands balance — between growth and guardianship, between progress and preservation. The world expects more from mining companies than ever before, and rightly so. Our duty is not only to deliver responsible resource development but also to ensure our operations strengthen the communities we touch, protect the environment we depend on, and uphold the trust of investors, partners, and governments around the world.

This policy represents our ongoing commitment to that responsibility. It defines how we operate, measure, and improve — guided by global best practice, international standards, and an unwavering respect for people and planet. We see corporate responsibility not as a reportable checkbox but as a culture, embedded in every decision we make. By holding ourselves to the highest standards of social, environmental, and safety performance, we aim to leave a legacy defined not by what we take, but by what we build and restore.

1. Corporate Social & Environmental Responsibility Policy

Purpose & Scope

Newport Mining is committed to operating responsibly — delivering lasting benefits to people, communities, and the planet. This policy applies to all operations, employees, contractors, and partners across the entire mine lifecycle.

Key Commitments

Ethics & Human Rights

We uphold transparency, fair conduct, and the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights. Engagement with stakeholders and Indigenous communities is respectful and continuous.

Community & Economy

We prioritise local employment, training, and procurement, working with communities and governments to build lasting economic and social value.

Environmental Stewardship

We minimise our footprint, manage waste and emissions responsibly, protect biodiversity, and plan for closure from the outset.

Governance & Transparency

We enforce strong internal controls, ethical standards, and public reporting through recognised frameworks such as GRI and TCFD.

Innovation & Improvement

We apply the "Plan-Do-Check-Act" model for continuous progress, adopting cleaner technologies and circular-economy practices.

Supply Chain Responsibility

Our partners must meet our social, environmental, and ethical standards. We oppose modern slavery and promote fair labour practices.

Closure & Legacy

Every project includes rehabilitation, financial provisioning, and post-mining community transition, ensuring a healthy ecosystem and sustainable land use.

Accountability

Leadership ensures this policy is built into our strategy and management systems (ISO 14001, ISO 45001, ISO 26000). All personnel share responsibility for performance. We set measurable goals, disclose progress annually, and review the policy every two years.

2. Health, Environmental & Safety (HES) Policy

Purpose

We aim for zero harm to people, environment, and communities. Safety, health, and environmental protection are fundamental to everything we do.

Core Principles

Leadership & Culture: Executives lead by example and foster a culture of accountability.
Risk Management: Identify, assess, and control hazards through the "Plan-Do-Check-Act" framework.
Beyond Compliance: Meet or exceed all legal and stakeholder expectations.
Safe Workplaces: Provide training, equipment, health monitoring, and wellbeing support.
Emergency Readiness: Maintain plans and drills for potential incidents.
Environmental Care: Protect air, land, water, and biodiversity; manage waste and emissions responsibly.
Climate & Energy: Reduce greenhouse gas emissions, improve efficiency, and build climate resilience.
Continuous Improvement: Learn from incidents, adopt better technology, and raise standards.
Transparency: Measure and publicly report performance, audits, and outcomes.

Implementation

The HES management system aligns with ISO 14001, ISO 45001, and ICMM standards. Performance is tracked via key indicators (safety rates, emissions, water use, biodiversity impacts) and audited annually.

3. Global Best Practice & Continuous Commitment

We align with the ICMM Mining Principles, the UN Global Compact, the Sustainable Development Goals, and the Paris Agreement.

ICMM Mining Principles

Adherence to the International Council on Mining and Metals' sustainable development framework

UN Global Compact

Commitment to universal sustainability principles in human rights, labor, environment and anti-corruption

Sustainable Development Goals

Alignment with UN SDGs, contributing to global development targets through our operations

Paris Agreement

We commit to third-party audits, community oversight, and transparent disclosure. We invest in innovation — low-carbon mining, digital monitoring, and circular-economy solutions. We prioritise shared prosperity, ensuring communities share in the mineral value chain and benefit from our presence long after extraction ends.
